For the month of October, 2013:
JANICE SORENSEN, New Work Old Work:
We Are Determined to Be Starved Before We Are Hungry;
a further study of hunger, desire and deprivation
During the month of October (Artist’s Reception October 6, 3-6pm), at Elmer’s Store in Ashfield, Janice Sorensen will be showing a collection of new work and the older work that inspired their creation. The materials for her new work, which Ms. Sorensen calls Palimpsests, include previously painted canvasses (which she buys at tag sales and thrift shops), spray paint and masking materials. Palimpsests are defined as: 1. A manuscript or piece of writing material on which the original writing has been effaced to make room for later writing but of which traces remain. 2. Something having usually diverse layers or aspects apparent beneath the surface.
Her previous works, watercolors, are from a body entitled, We Are Determined to Be Starved Before We Are Hungry, making this show “a further study of hunger, desire and deprivation.” There will be an Artist’s Reception on October 6, 3-6pm with music by Della Green.
“Janice Sorensen is able to make colors speak in a highly expressive and dynamic manner that adds another layer of meaning to her already personal narrative.” -Richard Yarde
